Outside the Gate

I love how God understands our needs.

Thursday night I was feeling rather frustrated with this whole missionary deal. I was feeling like I was getting into too much of a routine: Blossom (the orphanage) a few days a week, teaching kingergarten to Landon, Bible club on Fridays, etc... I wanted to spend more time outside the compound; I wanted to be more spontaneous about this thing we call "missionwork".

As I sat outside on our verandah, talking (and to be honest, complaining) to Mom, I saw a few kids in wife-beaters running around at the edge of our property.
Patrick had been sitting on our wall, saw the kids, and invited them to come pick ginnups off our overflowing tree. Domain, 13, Keshawn, 11, and Rojey, 6, live right across the road from us- we've met them before, but never really hung out with them.
Pat and I decided to go play with them outside the compound. The boys found a pile of sticks which immediately became deadly swords. (Pat came home with some battle wounds after all the sword fights.) Domain soon decided that his sword was actually a magic wand and he turned Pat and me into trees, cows, and fairies. When we finally decided that we had to go home, they asked when we can come play football (the soccer kind, not the shoulder pads and tackle kind) with them sometime.
Friday night we went over in the open field beside their houses and played football with the boys and a few of their friends. Domain asked if they could come over after church today. So after lunch, we invited them over for some basketball. Basketball soon turned into an all-out football war. We played till the score was about 13-12. I need to learn to play like a lady; I almost killed myself. But let me just say, when you're playing against your brothers, you sometimes need to just dive and stop the ball.
The best part about the soccer game was the fact that our neighbor boys are all terrified of our dogs (we have three). As we're all madly dashing for the ball, Rocky ran onto the field. The boys started screaming and running in the opposite direction. So much for intense competition. :)

I love how God knew I needed to get out of the mission compound Thursday night. I love how God is opening doors for us to get to know more of the community. I love how God cared about what I was feeling, even though He has alot of more important things to worry about.
